2007年10月19日上午，湖南省建成通车的第二条高速公路———醴陵至湘潭高速公路正式竣工通车。省委常委、副省长徐宪平宣布通车，省人大常委会副主任唐之享出席通车典礼。醴潭高速公路起与江西萍乡市交界处的金鱼石，经大林、东堡、株洲县芷线桥、荷塘区青草坝、石峰区龙头铺，止于湘潭境内京珠高速公路殷家坳互通，全长72.3公里，总投资22.72亿元。工程主线按双向四车道高速公路标准建设，其中金鱼石至黄沙段设计时速100公里，黄沙至殷家坳段设计时速120公里。项目于2003年10月正式启动，2004年7月动工兴建。醴潭
